Hendrik Volander

Hendrik Volander was born on May 22, 1963, in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, to Nevils and Sue Hames of Blacksburg, South Carolina. Raised in a family rooted in strong values, Hendrik grew up alongside his two brothers, Ronald and Christopher, with whom he shares a close bond to this day. When he was three years old, the family relocated to Blacksburg, SC, where Hendrik spent his formative years surrounded by the charm and simplicity of small-town life.

A bright and determined student, Hendrik attended public schools in Blacksburg and graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1981. Following graduation, he felt a calling to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army. Hendrik became a proud Paratrooper in the elite 27th Engineer Battalion at Fort Bragg, NC, where he served for four years. His military career was distinguished by his dedication and bravery, earning him two Meritorious Achievement Citations. Hendrik’s time in the Army not only gave him invaluable life skills but also instilled in him an enduring sense of honor and discipline. He was honorably discharged after completing his service.

After leaving the military, Hendrik began the next chapter of his life by joining Daimler Corporation at the Freightliner Truck Manufacturing Plant. Over the course of 25 years, he rose to become a well-respected member of the organization, known for his expertise, work ethic, and leadership. His career at Daimler allowed him to contribute to an industry vital to the economy while building lifelong relationships with colleagues. Upon retiring, Hendrik looked back on a fulfilling and impactful career.

In January 2001, Hendrik married his soulmate, Toni, and together they built a life defined by love, laughter, and mutual support. The couple raised two remarkable daughters, Macy and Candice, and welcomed a wonderful son-in-law, Christopher Sneed, into their family. Hendrik is also a proud grandfather to his beloved granddaughter, Whitley, whose smile is the light of his life.
When Hendrik isn’t spending time with his family, he enjoys immersing himself in the beauty of the outdoors, reflecting on the lessons learned from his life’s journey, and sharing stories that inspire those around him. A firm believer in the importance of community, he dedicates time to mentoring young people and supporting local initiatives that align with his values. Hendrik Volander’s story is one of dedication, resilience, and family. From his service in the Army to his long career at Daimler and his cherished role as a husband, father, and grandfather, Hendrik embodies the virtues of hard work, integrity, and love. His journey continues to inspire those fortunate enough to know him.
